Hummingbird Trails Memories

By Denise, August 2007

The day I went back to the old stomp'in grounds,
Where the Hummingbird winds, but there's no one around.
There is a "No Camping" sign, where the horses all stood,
The camp kitchen is gone, and there's no fire wood.
I wandered along, and brushed the tears from my eyes,
Wishing time had stood still, but then I had to realize
How lucky we are for these years that we had,
With horses and people, no time to be sad.

CHORUS:
Hummingbird Trails is a memory now,
With Irvin, and era, has ended somehow.
There's sadness I feel, but I'll never forget,
All the good times we had and all the people we met.
In those beautiful mountains where rivers run cold,
We followed the pack trails, of stories untold.
We rode through the vallyes and up the mountains high,
To Hummingbird Trails, I've come to say good-bye

The lookout tower, sees no action below,
There's no campfire smoke on those wranglers we know.
Cowboy and Par, have gone to BC,
Smokey and General are soon to be free.
Silver and Tonto, they had to part ways,
Children ride old Gizzmo for the rest of his days.
Champ lost his master, Jim left him behind,
Wrangler Dan's love was Moon, the four-legged kind.

CHORUS

Momma Elk is look'in, where he used to put the hay,
THe little deer are wonder'in why ther's no salt out today.
The chipmunks and squirrels are sjurring around,
There used to be oats, lots of oats on the ground.
These memories are special, the things I recall,
It brings a happy feeling, to remember it all.
I was part of the life where guide and outfitters stay,
At Hummingbird Trails, Irvin showed us the way.

CHORUS

To Hummingbird Trails, we have to say good-bye.
